Case 3 - Salem
Emergency case with anuria and lethargy - Bombay cat, 2y, male neutered
Salem had a history of recurrent urethral obstructions, with the two most recent episodes occurring less than six weeks apart. Both required general anaesthesia, catheterization, and hospitalization.
On this latest presentation—just four weeks after the previous event—blood biochemistry revealed elevated renal parameters, and stabilization was necessary prior to any further intervention.Given the frequency of recurrence and his clinical history, perineal urethrostomy was considered the most appropriate long-term solution.
The procedure was performed with the patient in dorsal recumbency, using 1.5 metric polyglecaprone 25 as the suture material (see image above).Salem recovered very well postoperatively.
A mild haematuria observed immediately after surgery resolved within a few days.
